Champion Christian college is excited to welcome Mrs. Melody Steiger as our new professor of English! Mrs. Steiger will be teaching six classes this fall, including Practical Writing, Fundamentals of Speech, and World Literature I. When she’s not in the classroom, Mrs. Steiger is likely to be found enjoying the plentiful outdoor activities in the Hot Springs area or serving on the worship team at Trinity Church, a position she’s filled for almost twenty years.
Mrs. Steiger brings an impressive background of experience to this position. She has extensive educational qualifications, including a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Williams Baptist University and a master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages from Arkansas Technical University. However, even more valuable than her educational qualifications is her practical experience. Although she was born and raised locally in Hot Springs, Mrs. Steiger has literally been around the world, teaching English in diverse areas such as rural villages in Honduras, high-rise apartments in China, and public schools and hospitals right here in Arkansas. She has also worked with students ranging in ages from eighteen months to seventy-three years.
As qualified as she is, though, Mrs. Steiger’s greatest strength is her heart for her students and for the Lord. Mrs. Steiger has experienced the English language from many different angles throughout her years of experience and has a passion for her students to experience grammar, composition, and literature on a personally comprehensible level with the goal of competence and confidence in their abilities. However, she considers effective use of the English language to be just a “bonus” compared to her ultimate goal: to support her students spiritually in knowing Who God is and how greatly He loves each of them.
“I am incredibly excited about Champion Christian College and the wonderful community in which I am integrating,” says Mrs. Steiger. “Teaching at CCC is more than a great job opportunity; it is a very direct answer to prayer. I look forward to what is coming!”
We too are filled with anticipation to welcome Mrs. Steiger this semester! We can’t wait to see how God will use her to impact our students’ lives in the coming weeks.
