Enhancements to Prepare Students for Certification
Since gaining accreditation in 2019, our graduates have become eligible to obtain licensure through their state's alternative licensure program options, which vary by state. During the 2023-2024 school year, we undertook a comprehensive review and update of our Elementary and Secondary Education Programs. Here’s what we’ve done:
- Alignment with Licensure Programs: We evaluated and aligned our courses with licensure programs from other colleges. This included establishing new prerequisites and program “gates” to ensure our students are well-prepared for their teaching careers.
- Champion Teacher Education Program: This new program requires students to complete certain state licensure requirements to progress. Students will begin taking their praxis exams while still enrolled at Champion, ensuring they meet most, if not all, prerequisites for alternative licensure programs by the time they graduate.
Goals and Objectives for the Programs
- Champion Teacher Education Program Implementation (2025): Fully integrate the new program structure.
- Licensure Application (2026): Begin the process to apply for licensure program status in Arkansas.
- Program Review and Continuous Improvement: Regularly review and update our education programs to ensure alignment with best practices and industry standards.
- Strengthen Partnerships with Schools: Build and enhance partnerships with local schools and educational organizations to provide students with ample opportunities for practical experience, mentorship, and professional networking.
Implementation Timeline
The new program requirements and courses will take effect this Fall, providing immediate benefits to both current and incoming students.
Conclusion
By continuously improving our programs and aligning them with industry standards, we aim to provide a top-tier education that prepares our students for successful teaching careers and impactful service. We are excited about these changes and the positive impact they will have on our students and the broader community.
